Keel, Rudder & Canard:
The canting keel is made in high strength steel covered by a composite shell.
The structure of the keel is original.
The keel was dye tested on January 2017.
The new composite keel surface has been designed by Biscontini Yacht design and fitted in 2017.
A new Titanium Keel hydraulic ram has been replaced in 2017 and is now able to cant the keel 40° per side. From the original 32° per side.
The rudder, and rudder stock are in carbon fibre, original.
Rudder bearings have been checked in 2017, all gasket replaced.
Carbon fiber Canard in front of the mast, original, able to be lifted and pivoting ±3° when in full down position
Predisposition for emergency steering system: two CNC machined aluminum bracket installed on transom and a composite box. The canard shall be removed from forward location and installed on the aft box.
Designed by Farr Yacht Design, the Cookson 50 is a production boat made by Cookson yard. In respect to standard boat the interior has been modified to allow a better sailing handling by cutting away the original kitchen positioned in the center of the boat and replaced by a smaller one on the side. In addition, two hatches closure have been built to separate the lazarette from the living area for safety reason in case of failure of the rudder.
