Gaff rigged schooner with traditional details: deadeyes, mast hoops, etc. Almost new Oceanus sails refurbished in 2007 by Jasper & Bailey, new Furlex roller furling on bowsprit for jib, new main tops’l sail, fisherman top sail, and light air drifter sail. Simpson Lawrence 12 volt horizontal windass (needs new motor, used as manual) with dual rope chain gypsies, (1) 45lb CQR anchor with chaine to rope rode and (1 45lb CQR with 150 foot chain rode attached. 4 new dorade vents added for cabin ventilation. There is also a Edson bilge pump accessible through the cockpit deck. Engine room exhaust blower, engine room intake blower, cathedral/”skylight” type Danforth White Constellation compass mounted on a pedestal at helm. Raymarine Pathfinder Plus RL 70C radar/GPS chartplotter, Raymarine ST60 Tridata, ICOM IC-M504 VHF radio, ICOM Commandmic cockpit microphone. The instrunemts are close to and visible from the companionway.
12VDC electrical distribution panels provide DC volt meter , battery test switch, main breaker, 13 labeled breaker protected 12V circuits, 6 spare breakers 3 battery switches to isolate and combine, by Blue Sea Link, the independent house and engine batteries. 40 AMP True Charge multi-stage battery charger, Quicksilver galvanic isolator,and a Xantrex/Pro XM 1000 inverter and a 110V control panel.
Propulsion is by a new 100 HP Volvo 4 cyclinder fresh water- cooled diesel engine with 2:1 reduction gear. Engine room is newly insulated. Cockpit engine panel provides a tachometer, oil pressure gauge, volt meter and a coolant temperature gauge. A lever type throttle and shift control is installed at the helm. New 80 amp alternator. New pumps, hoses, wiring, 5 new 100 amp batteries. Dual Racor fuel filter/water separators with a selection valve and vacuum gauge. 50 gallon black iron fuel tank and new 25 gallon fuel tank, new engine exhaust system, new 12 volt bow thruster (see comments). Bronze three-blade right hand propeller. Engine room ventilation improved.

The hull is planked with Port Orford cedar over Alaskan fir sawn and steamed frames. Plank fastenings are hot dipped galvanized boat nails (see comments). Primary backbone and structure are oak, the external ballast keel is cast iron. New bronze keel bolts. Planking, frames and fastenings all in excellent condition verified by independent marine surveyor in 2007. Survey available on request.

"I know that there is a mistaken "conventional wisdom" that only bronze screws should be used on a wood boat to fasten planks to frames. There is some validity to the value of bronze screws compared to galvanized screws. Galvanizing on threaded screws (and bolts) can be a potential problem. Most wood boats that have bronze screw fastenings have most of the structural timber fastened with galvanized bolts because bronze is too soft. I have replaced and refastened enough old wood boats with bronze screws to know that they are not immune to failure from corrosion. “Sara Jane’s” planks are fastened with hot dipped (not plated) galvanized boat nails. It is common to see West Coast built boats that have lasted generations fastened with boat nails. I currently own a 1937 45’ wooden workboat built in Vancouver, B.C. that is fastened with galvanized boat nails. Even after 60 years of hard use as a log towing vessel, and the last ten years as a yacht, the boat nails are still in great shape. The key to plank fastenings (whether bronze or galvanized boat nails) is sacrificial zincs to prevent corrosion. In any event, I had an independent marine surveyor inspect the fastenings on “Sara Jane” and they are in excellent condition with no sign of corrosion, and will last for many more years. In my experience, hot dipped galvanized boat nails last a long time and are never a reason not to give a well-built boat further consideration."

The schooner sleeps six in two cabins. There are two berths forward including an expandable width berth to starboard. The head with shower is located aft of the forward cabin. The forward companioway is located next to the head. The engine is positioned mid-ship with a passageway aft to the main cabin. The engine has 360 degree accessibility. The main cabin has two unique slide-out pilot berths on each side and two extension width settees. A mahogany drop leaf table is located between the settees. A mahogany sit down desk with cabinets is located in the forward end of the main cabin. The galley is located adjacent to the aft companionway and has a new LPG cookstove with microwave oven and new refrigeration unit.The galley sink is aft near the centerline. A gimbaled two-burner propane stove is on the port side with a microwave oven under the stove. There are numerous galley lockers and storage areas in the galley. The interior is trimmed out with handcrafted varnished mahogany and original brass and bronze hardware, solid and/or leaded glass doors and lighting fixtures throughout.
