This classic sailing yacht was the pride of the London boat show in 1970, designed by the renowned naval architect, Angus Primrose who inputted into such designs as Sir Francis Chichester's Gypsy Moth IV with John Illingworth, Moody yachts etc.
Angus Primrose designed Hippokampos, Souter and Sons in Cowes constructed her to contend the Admirals cup for 1971. The hull shape allows comfortable ocean crossings in all types of weather. Hippokampos has had no expense spared on constant upgrades with fully restored cold moulded mahogany hull, new Nanni engine, new Formula marine designed mast, new rigging, new Garmin/Jeffa autopilot, New Andersen winches, new quantum woven dynema hydranet performance cruising sails. She is a solid 50 year old ocean going, classic sailing yacht and ready to continue sailing for the next 50 years.
The vessel is known to the brokerage and the owner is open to both inspections and offers and the reason for the sale is simply due to lack of available use.
She has a recent 2021 survey available, comes with a racing suite of sails including spinnakers, cruising sails, storm sails etc

The Perkins 4107 was replaced with a Nanni 50hp and has 240 hours on the clock
The vessel comes with an original RORC certification dated in the 1980s and displaying the dimensions of sails and hull measurements etc required for racing back in the day.
The hull is constructed using 5 x layers of cold moulded mahogany veneers enabling a strong and light construction method, still maintaining the allure of a timber vessel with classic lines, without the maintenance worries that come with owning a timber boat. the hull has been maintained with 3 x layers of wests systems epoxy to encapsulate the outside of the hull prior to painting taking place.
Spirit yachts are still using this construction methods to this day.
