European Yacht of the Year 2017

Querencia as a well equipped and ORC optimized X4.3 that has been lovingly cared for by her owners since delivery in August 2018. Since delivery she has been upgraded with many notable cruising and racing features that allow this X4.3 to be cruised by a couple, raced double handed, or fully crewed including distance ocean racing. Based in Annapolis, Querencia has participated in 24-hour double handed distance races (winning her ORC class 1 in 2020) and notably placed in the top half of her class in the 2021 Annapolis to Newport Race. While not on the race course the owners cruised with family and friends through-out the Chesapeake and New England.

The interior is of the preferred Standard Layout, with three cabins and a large mid-ships head. An aft facing nav station, large saloon and galley, and ample storage through-out make this a winner in every category.

Querencia is setup with the standard interior layout, which is three cabins, a large saloon, galley, nav station, and a mid-ships head with separate toilet/shower area. As an added feature the floorboards maybe fastened down, a requirement in the safety regulations of many popular offshore distance races.
Danish design and architecture is famous for its clean and timeless style. The X4.3 interior is designed to work at open sea as well as moored. The utmost care has been taken to design the interior of the X4.3. From the basic layout, to the smallest details, everything has been carefully chosen to ensure that the X4.3 is a perfect blue water cruising boat.

Interior surface finish is veneered with Nordic Oak. Floorboards of 16 mm marine plywood with imitated teak laminate and inspection hatches to access bilge.

Companionway with steps of curved unvarnished teak. Stainless steel handrails by entrance and alongside coach roof. Portlights in main cabin.

Master Cabin
The master cabin is located forward and features a double size island berth with split cushions. The berth bottom is hinged, allowing for it to be easily raised to access a large storage area with four subdivided compartments. There is further storage beneath pullout panels and under the forward portion of the bed. Along the forward bulkhead is a lighted bookshelf with 12V outlet and two reading lamps. Along the port and starboard sides is a shelf that leads to a pair of lockers with room to hang garments and additional shelves. At the base of the hanging lockers is a pair of drawers and a shelf that also has a cushion so that it may be used as a seat while getting dressed.
There are also a pair of 12V fans, 12V USB outlets, and 110v outlet (starboard side) arranged on the forward facing of the hanging lockers. Ample light and ventilation is provided by three fixed portlights and three opening deck hatches. The deck hatches are fitted with OceanAir sun shades/bug screens and the side portlights have a snap-on cover.

Saloon
The saloon is classically arranged with a port side galley, starboard side nav station. The dinette is located just forward of the galley, in a U-shape with plush cushions and a large setback, allowing for easy lounging or use as a sea-berth. On starboard the settee doubles as a seat for the nav station. Ventilation is provided be a set of opening portlights in the saloon and galley with OceanAir shades. Over head there are two opening deck hatches.

Aft Cabins

Engine & Mechanical

The X4.3 is fitted with a Yanmar 4JH45 engine with a maximum power output of 33 kW (45 hp) at 3000 rpm. As standard, the engine is fitted with a 12V/120A alternator for charging the engine start and domestic batteries. 500 engine hours, serviced bi-annually as per warranty and owner's manual.
Engine control panel and throttle/gear lever placed in starboard cockpit coaming. Engine control panel incorporates rpm meter, hour counter, acoustic alarm for oil pressure and cooling water temperature.
Engine is mounted to the hull structure using vibration reducing shock mounts.
The X4.3 is fitted with a Yanmar SD60 sail drive. A 2-blade Ø 18" Gori folding propeller with sacrificial zinc anode is fitted as standard. The propeller is protected with a PropSpeed coating.
The engine compartment is situated below the cockpit floor. Excellent access is provided by removing side walls and companion way steps.
The engine compartment is designed to offer superb accessibility to the majority of the systems on the boat. The engine, hot water tank, and many other systems are located within the engine compartment and have wide open access.
The engine compartment is lined with dense sound proof foam, to reduce noise and heat in the cabins. There is also forced ventilation to reduce temperature and radiant heat. A fire port is fitted between companionway steps.
The engine liner forms an enclosed engine compartment sump, which is separated from the rest of the boat, to make it easy to keep clean.

Deck

The deck is a hand lay-up, full sandwich construction. The foam provides strength and insulation.
The deck uses a polyester resin system and the skins are mainly biaxial E-glass layers with local unidirectional reinforcements strategically positioned for strength. In load bearing areas, such as under deck fittings, either plywood or aluminum replaces the foam core.
Vacuum applied teak deck standard on cockpit seats and cockpit sole.platform. Teak is nominally 9 mm thick and is laid using Sikaflex adhesive with no visible fixings.

Hull

The X4.3 hull is a composite construction, moulded in a 5-axis-milled female tooling. X-Yachts hulls are built using the latest construction technologies with a vacuum-infused, post-cured epoxy construction. The hull is a full sandwich construction, using foam core, biaxial E-glass skins and local E-glass unidirectional reinforcements strategically positioned for strength and weight optimization.
All structural bulkheads are securely bonded to hull and deck. All bulkheads of marine plywood in thicknesses between 12 and 20 mm.
At the forward end of the boat watertight bulkheads separate the anchor compartment, sail locker and interior accommodation for safety and reassurance in the event of a collision.
The keel structure consists of a hot galvanized, high strength steel frame which forms an integral part of the hull structure. It is capable of absorbing loads from keel and mast as well as shock loads in the event of grounding. Integrated limber holes are positioned in order to allow water to run to the central keel bilge.
The keel structure also has an integrated single point center hoist for easy and safe lifting and launching; lifting strap and tackle included.
The keel consists of antimony hardened lead T-bulb bolted and glued to cast iron fin for high strength, low center of gravity and comfortable sailing performance.
Keel is encapsulated in three layers of CSM E-glass with epoxy matrix and faired to original keel section templates.
The keel is securely bolted to the structural steel keel frame with stainless steel bolts and faired.
Keel & rudder faired & templated by the X-Yachts shipyard, further faired by the seller.
