1962 Hubert Johnson Black Jack 247m

According to a 1959 review in Popular Boating Magazine, the Black Jack 24 “was designed primarily as a sports skiff that could handle rough water, make her way without trouble in and out of tricky-to-navigate inlets, and behave herself in any water suitable to a boat her size.”  The in-depth article (available upon request) goes on to say “Of the two-dozen boats reported on in Popular Boating, and the hundred or more tested for the series, the BLACK JACK is by far the softest riding and most comfortable boat at high speed on a chop that I have encountered”

DRAGONFLY is a fine, well maintained example of the type. She under a major overhaul in 2000-2001 where she was repowered with a Marine Power 5.7 Vortec engine, received a pair of Monel 30 gal. fuel tanks, and was completely re-wired. She is set up with forward cuddy, adjustable helm seat, navigator seat atop a locker and stainless framed dodger w/side curtains. Currently located indoors at Artisan Boatworks in Rockport, ME
